I am a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and have been working with children and young people aged 8 months onwards since 1999 when I qualified at the De Montfort University, Leicester.
I worked for the Brighton and Hove Primary Care Trust (NHS) from 1999 until 2007, in Health Centres, nurseries and schools throughout the city, with children who have wide ranging speech, language and communication difficulties, with varying degrees of severity and complexity. I gained extensive experience of working with individuals, small and large groups, as well as within different classroom settings.
For 4 years I was based at the I CAN nursery at Carden Primary school. This is a pre-school language centre with specialist staff that enables 3 and 4 year old children with severe, specific speech and language difficulties to access intensive speech and language therapy and specialist education, as well as a usual mainstream nursery environment. I CAN is the national charity that supports children with speech, language and communication difficulties. During this time I also started an independent practice.
I moved to Cambridge in 2007, when I got married. I have since then worked part-time as a locum for Hertfordshire Primary Care Trust in clinics, schools and nurseries, and also continued in independent practise. From January 2009, I will be involved in an innovative project in North Essex, delivering Speech and Language Therapy in schools, as well as delivering Makaton training throughout Suffolk.
I have a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Human Communication (Speech and Language Therapy) from De Montfort University (1999), am registered with the Health Professionals Council (HPC), and am a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and the Association of Speech and Language therapists in Independent Practice (ALSTIP).
